A springtime 3-hour teacher workshop exploring lessons in the garden and outdoor classroom. Participants will be introduced to garden basics and easy to grow fruit trees, veggies, flowers and herbs for the school and youth garden. We will explore lessons in the garden by planting a ‘guild’ or grouping of plants which provide a mutually beneficial relationship, such as, the Three Sisters: corn, squash and beans.

Then, participants will be guided in foraging and harvesting the bounty of the garden to share a springtime salad! During our lite community lunch, best school garden practices, sustainability and funding the school garden will be shared in group discussion.

Participants will receive a complimentary copy of the 2019 Urban Harvest School Gardening Guide with month-to-month garden activities, TEKS correlations, and tips and tricks in gardening with kids. Teachers will be awarded 3 CPE’s.

This workshop is hosted by The PEACE Garden club sponsor and school librarian Ms. Verdin at Milby High School. The Buffalo School Garden is an Urban Harvest Affiliate community garden and our featured highlights in how they grow year ‘round.
