    Did you know that the fall and winter seasons of Houston make for some the easiest times to grow vegetables? You will learn when and where to plant, soil preparation, seed germination and transplanting a long list of vegetables, including lettuce, kale, chard, cabbage, collards, bok choy, mustard, carrot, beet, rutabaga, potato, turnip, parsnip, radish, celeriac, broccoli, cauliflower, celery, snow pea, onion, multiplying onion, leek, and garlic. Don’t have space for a garden? Many of these can be grown in containers on a patio!

    PRESENTERS:
    Bob is the author of the best-selling local gardening book: Year-Round Food Gardening for Houston and Southeast Texas. He was one of the eight founders of Urban Harvest in 1994 and was Executive Director from its beginning until he retired after 21 years of leadership (including Urban Harvest’s predecessor at the Interfaith Hunger Coalition) in early 2008. As such, Bob has played a major local and national role in the development of area community gardens, school gardens, farmers’ markets, organic gardening classes, and organic landscaping.

    Carol Burton is Urban Harvest’s Director of Permaculture and is rooted in to gardening with over twenty years of experience gardening and growing food gardens in shared spaces, backyards, and school gardens. Carol is a certified teacher and curriculum specialist in environmental education. She is a Certified Permaculture Designer and recipient of the Elizabeth Hull Abernathy Award from the Garden Club of America for outstanding contributions to the environmental education of youth.


    If you cannot attend the class as scheduled, there are no refunds or substitutions. The class recording will be sent to participants.

    Registration will close 24 hours prior to classes Monday - Saturday and 48 hours before all Sunday classes.
