  • Saturday September 28th 10:00-11:30
Location: Trees for Houston – Bauer Education Center

Like growing vegetables here along the Texas Gulf Coast, growing annual cut flowers requires us to adapt our planting seasons so that they can flourish in this climate. This class will lay out the specifics for growing cool weather cut flowers that are started in the fall and overwintered for early spring blooms—from sourcing seeds to seed starting, from bed preparation to transplanting, from pinching to harvesting to conditioning. We will also offer a Top Ten List of Cool Season Cut Flowers for our region.

    Presenter:
Dr. Kimberly Meyer is a writer and beekeeper, who helps collectively manage Shamba Ya Amani/Farm of Peace in Alief with a sisterhood of refugee women and other Houstonian where they produce food, flowers, and honey for the wider community. Her books include The Book of Wanderings: A Mother-Daughter Pilgrimage and Accidental Sisters: Refugee Women and a New American Dream.

If you cannot attend the class as scheduled, there are no refunds or substitutions.

Registration will close 24 hours prior to most classes and 48 hours before all Sunday classes.

(At registration you will receive two emails, one is a receipt and the other will be sent a few days prior to the class with event details that include Zoom link (if necessary) and contact information. Contact education@urbanharvest.org for questions.)
