A workshop to provide gardeners support in the care of fruit trees for maximum abundance!
This class takes place in the Alief Community Garden Orchard with permaculturalists, Carol Burton and Kyle Frese, Alief Orchard Coordinator.
We will start off in the garden with a Lesson in safety and demonstration in how to care for our fruit tree and to how to prune correctly. Then, we will split up into groups for guided practice and practical application in caring for the fruit trees in the garden.
Pruning for:
Apples, Pears and Peaches
Care of Figs and some pruning as needed.
Finally, special attention for citrus and bananas.
Carol Burton is Urban Harvest’s Director of Permaculture with over twenty years of experience in backyard, school and community gardening, and environmental education. Carol is a certified teacher and curriculum specialist in environmental education. She is a Certified Permaculture Design Consultant and recipient of the Elizabeth Hull Abernathy Award from the Garden Club of America for outstanding contributions to environmental education of youth.
Kyle Frese is owner of Decentralized Farming LLC, a company focused on helping people, businesses, and schools get started and continue growing their own food. Kyle received his permaculture design certificate in May of 2022. Kyle has a background in chemical and environmental engineering. He left his corporate chemical career to focus on his permaculture business in early 2024. Kyle was president of his HOA board for 1.5 years in 2022 & 2023, and still currently sits on his HOA board. Kyle is fascinated by the benefits of diversity in soil, plants, and animals, and the ability for us all to take back power through gardening/farming.
