  3. Urban Permaculture: Community Engagement
  • Urban Permaculture: Community Engagement logo
  • Join us for an exciting new initiative - An Urban Permaculture Community Engagement event for a vacant lot! We invite you to enjoy breakfast light bites while we delve into the world of native plants, butterfly gardening, and fruit trees. This event is all about gathering input from the community to envision a garden for this newly acquired space.

Join the creative process in a community lead art activity to vision a garden design by brainstorming our wishes and dreams for a healthy green space to nourish and nurture the bees, birds, butterflies and people too.

Our goal is to cultivate this vacant lot for the community, utilizing permaculture principles to create a thriving and sustainable green space. Take this opportunity to walk the land, discover the native plants already growing on the site, and explore how we can meet the community's needs for a healthy environment.

Our Community Partners and Presenters are here to guide you through this exciting journey. Carol Burton, our Director of Permaculture, will lead the community input session and also share insights on the top 5 fruit trees for Houston. Blas Espinosa from Next Door Nursery will offer his expertise on butterfly gardening, providing valuable tips and techniques for creating a butterfly-friendly space.

Special Guest: Eddie Garcia, Artist and Storyteller

Join us at the corner of 45 and Telephone Road at Dismuke, 5600 Harriet Street, for a morning of learning, networking, and community building. Let's work together to transform this vacant lot into a vibrant and sustainable garden that benefits us all. See you there!

RSVP today to attend OR to stay updated for notices of the next community event for a new garden with Fall Community events in the works!
