This class introduces the fundamentals of fruit tree care and selection, with a special focus on varieties that thrive in the unique climate and soils of the Houston area. Integrated within a holistic permaculture framework, students will learn design principals for productive landscapes that support both people and the planet.

Fruit Tree Basics: Site selection, planting, watering, when to prune and organic pest management.
Variety Selection: Best fruit trees for Houston’s subtropical climate, including figs, citrus, with a strong emphasis on stone fruits which include plums, peaches and nectarines for Houston and finally, native fruit tree species to increase climate resilience.
Permaculture Principles: How to design with nature using zones, guilds, and water-wise strategies.
Soil Health & Composting: Building fertility naturally through mulching, composting, and cover crops.
Integrated Design: Creating food forests and edible landscapes that are beautiful, low-maintenance, and ecologically sound.
