  3. Successfully Growing Winter Vegetables and Herbs

  • Join us on October 6 as Ed Naspinski, farmer and owner of Rain Song Farm, discusses common winter vegetables and herbs. The class will highlight simple techniques that save time, improve germination rates, and help gardeners achieve better results. Participants will also take part in a hands-on activity planting winter herbs to bring home.

    Presenter:
Ed Naspinski has been a Montgomery County Master Gardener since 2015 and has practiced organic gardening since childhood on a Pennsylvania farm. He adapted those methods to the Houston-area climate with guidance from mentors including Dr. Bob Randall, Brad Stufflebeam, and others. From 2009 to 2011, he and his wife operated Rain Song Farm, a small organic and sustainable vegetable business, where they sold produce and educated customers at the Grogan’s Mill and Tomball farmers markets.

Ed is a mechanical engineer who retired from the refining and petrochemical industry in early 2015. In early 2017, he revived Rain Song Farm after establishing a 40-plus-tree fruit orchard and adding row vegetable gardens and raised beds. His work remains focused on growing food without synthetic chemicals or products. Today, he spends much of his time tending the gardens, writing weekly farm newsletters, and identifying new vegetables that thrive in the greater Houston area.
